If the weather looks doubtful for Fixtures, ring the relevant court operator about an hour before the match starting time (or the opposition team if there is no court contact phone number in the Fixtures Draw) to see if the courts are playable.
After taking into account the state of the courts and the weather radar, the court operator will make a decision at that time. Obviously, they won’t always get it right and, after deciding that Tennis is on, it might rain again later in the night and wash out play. So, sometimes you will have a wasted trip. That is one of the consequences of playing an outdoor sport like Tennis.
For matches scheduled to be played at the UQ Tennis Centre, ring the UQ Tennis Centre on 3365 6933 (don't ring the UQ Tennis Club as the Club has no involvement in the operation of the UQ Tennis Centre).
If there are showers in the morning, it is not helpful to start phoning Tennis organizations or court operators in the morning and asking “Will Tennis be on tonight” or, worse, “Will it be raining tonight”. Even BOM doesn’t always know the answer to the latter question. Tennis will be on if the courts are playable at the time of the match.
The weather can vary markedly around Brisbane. On many occasions, matches are washed out on one side of the city while it is perfectly fine on the other side of town. Therefore, Tennis organisations will never cancel all matches for the night. It is always a local decision made by the relevant court operator.
