Note about alcohol license

The UQ Tennis Club has a Community Other Licence (previously called a Restricted Club Permit).

The licensed area is the verandah, clubhouse, kitchen & office. Under the Liquor Act, alcohol may not be sold OR CONSUMED in the licensed area outside of the permitted hours.

Any group that hire courts and wishes to use the Clubhouse verandah to consume alcohol have two options:

  1. have the drinks downstairs (e.g. cafe area or hire a marquee)
  2. apply to Liquor Licensing to have the verandah excluded from the licensed area for the duration of the event

For Option 1, the Tennis Centre would have to obtain approval from UQ Security.  The “Application for Permission to Keep or Consume Intoxicating Liquor on Site” has to be lodged at least 7 days before the event.

For Option 2, an "Application for a Temporary Change in Licensed Area" has to be lodged with the Office of Gaming and Liquor Regulation 3-4 weeks in advance and a $55.15 fee applies. The UQ Tennis Club will submit this application.

A $10,000 fine applies for selling liquor outside of the permitted hours or allowing liquor to be consumed on the licensed premises outside of the permitted areas.
