January Singles Challenge Results

33 players competed in the UQ Tennis Club's January Singles Challenge played on Saturday morning, 11 January.

This was a UTR-tiered event with the 35 entrants divided into 7 round-robin groups of 5 on the basis of their UTRs. Everybody got a great morning of competitive Tennis with the players fairly evenly matched in all the groups. All group winners will receive a $50 gift card. The event was marred by a last-second withdrawal and a no-show.

Despite all the rain overnight and the '90% chance of rain' prediction, it was fine all morning until about 11 a.m. when there were some light patches of rain. Play was washed out at 11:30 a.m. when the heavy rain arrived. Of the 62 matches to be played, all but three were completed.

Winners in 5 groups were determined but 2 groups need one more match to be played to decide the group winner. These matches should be played next weekend.

Group A (UTR 6.7 to UTR 6.2) - Javier Bacle

Group B (UTR 6.2 to UTR 5.7) - Keizo Yoshii

Group C (UTR 5.6 to UTR 4.9) - Chen-Ming Ong

Group D (UTR 4.6 to UTR 4.2) - Kishan Vyas

Group E (UTR 4.2 to UTR 3.9) - to be decided

Group F (UTR 3.9 to UTR 3.0) - to be decided

Group G (UTR 3.0 to UTR 1.5) - Harry Gong
