Club Championships 2010

With all the problems over the court lights and the subsequent disruption to Fixtures, please don’t forget that entries for the Annual Club Championships close this Thursday (26 August).  The Club Championships is a daytime tournament which will be played on Sunday 5 September, Sunday 12 September, Saturday 18 September and Sunday 19 September.

As the event draws have to be constructed, the time draws have to be done and the courts for 5 September have to be booked with UQ Sport by 27 August, entries must be lodged by 26 August.   Unlike the Club’s participation tournament round-robins, where players can be added in at the last moment, late entries cannot be added into an event in a knock-out draw unless a complete redraw is done which then causes the time draw to have to be re-done.

Last year there were record entries in the Club Championships.  This tournament is one of the few opportunities for members to play matches which are best-of-three-sets (Singles events) or best-of-two-sets (Doubles events), instead of just one set as in Fixtures.

This is not a participation tournament.  If you lose in your first match in an event, you are out of that event (i.e. knock-out draws will be used).  However, events are being run at 4 levels to cover all Fixture grades - Open, A Grade (ITN 5-10), B Grade (ITN 6-10) and C Grade (ITN 7-10).

The winners in the 2009 Club Championships were:  Chris Noble (OMS), Krystyna Anderson (OLS), Hannes Grobler & Sam Rodger (OMD), Krystyna Anderson & Chris Noble (OXD), Paul De Barbeyrac (AMS), Claudia Hong (ALS), Ryan Carson & Sage Durham (AMD), Ashley Wilkinson & Krystyna Anderson (ALD), Alexandra Taylor & Ryan Carson (AXD), William Thompson (BMS), Millie Weeks (BLS), Andrew Demasson & Scott McDowell (BMD), Millie Weeks & Alexandra Taylor (BLD), Elaine Sealby & Duncan Sealby (BXD) and Scott Rolph (CMS).
