2022 September Monday Night-time Singles Fixtures

Following the on-going success of the Singles competitions introduced in 2017, the UQ Tennis Club will be running another season of Singles Fixtures on Monday nights in September.

The Singles Fixtures will run from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on two consecutive Monday nights (5 & 12 September).

Entrants are commiting to being available for both nights.

The Singles Fixtures will be run as an any-gender competition and will use a mixture of Teams Fixtures and Tournament rules.

All players who have not participated in UQ Tennis Club Programs must be graded.  Grading will be done at Thursday Night or Sunday Afternoon Social Tennis.

Players will be divided into round-robin groups of six by standard and each player will play every other player in their group once.  Points will be awarded as follows (3 points for a win and 1 point for a loss with 0.1 bonus points for every game won).  The round-robin will be followed by play-offs between the players who finish 1st & 2nd on points, the players who finish 3rd & 4th on points and the players who finish 5th & 6th on points.  This will give all players 5 matches in the round-robin plus 1 play-off match on the final night (i.e. 6 matches each).

Although players will be able to nominate a preference for A1, A2, B or C Grade when they enter, the final group names and the division of players into those groups will be decided by the UQ Tennis Club's organizing committee with the aim of having the best six players in the highest group, the next best six in the second group, and so on until all players have been allocated to a group.

All matches will be one set (i.e. first to 6 games with a tie-break if the score reaches 5-games all).  45 minutes will be allocated for each match with a 5-minute warm-up before the first match each night.  Players will play three matches per night in the 7 to 7:50 p.m., 7:50 to 8:35 p.m. and 8:35 to 9:20 p.m. timeslots.

All matches will be played, so the season may be extended to 19 September or beyond to play any washed-out matches.

There is a limit to the number of players that can be accommodated with this competition format.  Therefore, entries can be closed early.  If the competition over-subscribes, the order of receipt of entries will be used to determine the final acceptances.

The season fee is $50 for Ordinary, Associate & Junior members of the UQ Tennis Club or $60 for all others.

Entries close on Wednesday, 31 August.

The entry form can be picked up from under the UQ Tennis Clubhouse or downloaded as a PDF file here.

Entries can also be lodged on-line using Tennis Australia's tournament on-line entry system.

The direct link to enter on-line can be found here.

N.B. When players go to enter on-line, they are asked to create a Tournament account if they don't already have one.  To create a Tournament account, players need their 11-digit Tennis Australia My Tennis Player ID Number (starting '61').  Unfortunately, although the TA tournament on-line entry system still requires the 11-digit Player ID Number, TA has stopped issuing Player ID Numbers automatically for new registered players.  This means that players who do not have a Player ID number, or don't remember their number, need to contact Tennis Australia via or 1800 752 983 to obtain their number or have a number created for them (information required - name, postal address, unique e-mail address, birthdate and a phone number).
