2022 (51st) University Open Tennis Championships

The University Open is the major open tennis tournament in Brisbane.

The 2022 University Open will be the 51st University Open and is a Premier Series event.

This is an open tournament, so entry is open to all players.  However, players must have a Tennis Australia My Tennis Player I.D. Number to enter.  Players who do not have their 11-digit Player I.D. Number need to contact Tennis Australia to get a number before trying to enter (E-mail play@tennis.com.au or phone 1800 752 983).

The tournament offers 44 events, with a total of over $15,000 in prizemoney & prizes, catering for all players from the top tournament player to the local fixtures or social player.

Players must be available at all times during the tournament. Any time exemption requests will be ignored.  The Tournament Time Draw cannot be organised around players’ other activities.  

Knock-Out Events:

Open (Premier Series, $7,500 prizemoney) - 13-16 July - leads into the Caloundra ITF World Tennis Tour M15 & W15 tournaments on 18-24 July & 25-31 July
In the Men's & Women's Open Singles events, players will be split into multiple draws based on ratings bands - Tier 1 (Qualifying & Main Draw), Tier 2, Tier 3, etc.

Special (UTR 10.00) - 16-17 & 23-24 July

Junior (for all ages 18 & Under) - 16-17 & 23-24 July
In the Boys' & Girls' Singles events, players will be split into multiple draws based on ratings bands - Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, etc.

Round-Robin Events:

Grade events covering all fixture and social levels - 16-17, 23-24 & 30-31 July 
A Grade (UTR 9.00), A Reserve Grade (UTR 8.00), B Grade (UTR 6.00) and C Grade (UTR 4.00)

Seniors events (with Level 6 National Seniors Ranking Points) - 16-17, 23-24 & 30-31 July
35 & Over, 40 & Over, 45 & Over, 50 & Over, 55 & Over and 60 & Over

The first rounds of the Round-Robin Grade & Seniors events are pre-scheduled so players know their first session times when they enter.  For large Round-Robin events, first round winners will be required to play follow-on finals at another time.  For the larger events, these play-offs will most likely be on 30-31 July.

 The rough eligibility guidelines for the Round-Robin Grade events are:

A Grade (UTR 9.00)  -  approx. ITN 4, UQTC Fixtures A1 Grade, high UQTC Social Red
A Reserve Grade (UTR 8.00)  -  approx. ITN 5, UQTC Fixtures A2 Grade, low UQTC Social Red
B Grade (UTR 6.00)  -  approx. ITN 6, UQTC Fixtures B1 Grade, UQTC Social Yellow
C Grade (UTR 4.00)  -  approx. ITN 7, UQTC Fixtures C Grade, UQTC Social Green

NOTE: ELIGIBILITY FOR EVENTS WITH UTR CUT-OFFS WILL BE BASED ON THE UTR DOWNLOAD PROVIDED BY TENNIS QUEENSLAND ON 5 JULY.

Entrants in Round-Robin Grade events, not playing in UQ Tennis Club programs, must supply information about their playing standard such as their ITN, UTR or Fixtures (Competition, Team Name & Grade).  

Entries for the Open Singles & Doubles events and Junior Singles events will only be accepted if lodged on-line.  Entries for all other events may be lodged on-line or using the downloadable entry form, but on-line entry preferred.

The deadline for entries is Sunday, 3 July.   N.B. ENTRY DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 5 JULY.

N.B. When players go to enter on-line, they are asked to create a Tournament account if they don't already have one.  To create a Tournament account, players need their 11-digit Tennis Australia My Tennis Player ID Number.  This means that players who do not have a Player ID Number, or don't remember their number, need to contact Tennis Australia via or 1800 752 983 to obtain their number or have a new number created for them (information required - name, postal address, unique e-mail address, birthdate and a phone number).   

A printable version of the entry form can be downloaded here but this cannot be used to enter the Open Singles & Doubles and the Junior Singles events.  These events must be entered on-line.  On-line entry for all events is preferred.
