2016 University Open Tennis Championships
N.B. There has been a problem with Tennis Australia's on-line entry system but the problem now seems to have been fixed. The problem was that although entrants completed the credit card payment steps they got a message saying their entry wasn't complete because they hadn't paid. If this happens to you, do the following:
(1) Inform the Tournament Director (admin@uqtc.org.au) so he can manually upload the entry into the tournament from the Unpaid Entries list.
(2) Check your credit card transactions to confirm no payment was processed.
(3) Try again later to see if the payment processing problem has been fixed and, if not, go to the tournament information listed under 'Regulations' to check out alternative payment options (e.g. internet transfer).
The University Open is the major open tennis tournament in Brisbane.
The tournament runs over three weekends (23-24 July, 30-31 July & 6-7 August) but the Australian Ranking Points events will only be played on the first two weekends.
The tournament offers 46 events, catering for all players from the top tournament player to the local fixture player.
Knock-Out Events:
Open (Silver Level Australian Ranking Points)
Special (ITN 3)
18 & Under (Bronze Level Australian Ranking Points)
Round-Robin Events:
Grade events covering all fixture and social levels
ITN 4-10 (A Grade), ITN 5-10 (B Grade), ITN 6-10 (C Grade) and ITN 7-10 (D Grade)
Seniors events (with Level 6 Seniors Ranking Points)
35 & Over, 40 & Over, 45 & Over, 50 & Over, 55 & Over and 60 & Over
The rough eligibility guidelines for the Round-Robin Grade events are:
ITN 4 - UQTC Fixtures A1 Grade, BNTA Fixtures Pennant, UQ Social Red
ITN 5 - UQTC Fixtures A2 Grade, BNTA Fixtures Pennant Reserve 1, UQ Social Red
ITN 6 - UQTC Fixtures B1 Grade, BNTA Fixtures Division 1, UQ Social Yellow
ITN 7 - UQTC Fixtures C Grade, BNTA Fixtures Division 2, UQ Social Green & Blue
The first rounds of the Round-Robin events are pre-scheduled so players know their first session times when they enter. For large Round-Robin events, first round winners will be required to play follow-on finals at another time.
Entrants in Round-Robin Grade events, not playing in UQ Tennis Club programs, must supply information about their playing standard such as their ITN or Fixtures (Competition, Team Nmae & Grade).
Entries for the Australian Ranking Points events will only be accepted if lodged on-line. Entries for all other events may be lodged on-line or using the downloadable entry form. Doubles entries will not be accepted unless a partner is named.
The deadline for entries has been extended from 9 July to Tuesday, 12 July.
The first 20 on-line entrants will receive a free University Open T-Shirt.
Entries can be lodged on-line here.
N.B. Tennis Australia has made its tournament on-line entry system needlessly complicated. When players go to enter on-line, they are asked to create a Tournament account if they don't already have one. To create a Tournament account, players need their 11-digit Tennis Australia My Tennis Player ID Number. Unfortunately, although the Tennis Australia tournament on-line entry system still requires the 11-digit My Tennis Player ID Number, Tennis Australia has stopped issuing Player ID Numbers automatically for new players being registered through My Tennis (as it is switching to using player e-mail addresses for identification purposes). This means that players who do not have a Player ID Number, or don't remember their number, need to contact Tennis Australia via play@tennis.com.au or 1800 752 983 to obtain their number or have a new number created for them (information required - name, postal address, unique e-mail address, birthdate and a phone number).
A printable version of the entry form can be downloaded here but this cannot be used to enter the Open Singles & Doubles and the 18/U Singles & Doubles. These events must be entered on-line.
