2011 Uni Open Champions
Nao Hibino & Robert Smeets (Open Singles Champions)
The 2011 University Open Tennis Championships were completed on the weekend (23-24 July).
Robert Smeets (Brisbane) and Nao Hibino (Japan) are the 2011 Open Singles Champions.
62 players contested the Open Men’s Singles. In the Final, Smeets (No. 4 Seed and Champion in 2004) defeated Mark Draper (No. 2 Seed and Champion in 1993, 2008 & 2009) 6-3 6-4.
31 players entered the Open Ladies’ Singles. In the Final, the 16-year-old Hibino (No. 2 Seed) overwhelmed Singapore’s Stefanie Tan (No. 3 Seed) 6-3 6-2.
Two of the best matches in the tournament were the Semi-Finals of the Open Men’s Singles in which Robert Smeets defeated Jared Easton (No. 1 Seed) 6/1 3/6 6/3 and Mark Draper defeated Luke Harvey (No. 5 Seed) 6/3 4/6 7/6.
