UQ Finalists in Inaugural University Tennis League
The University Tennis League (UTL) is being piloted in 2024 by UniSport and Tennis Australia to provide an opportunity for university tennis players from around Australia to compete against each other.
The 2024 League consisted of qualifying fixtures played within four regional conferences - North, East, South and West with the top team in each conference progressing to the Finals.
The Finals series for the conference winners was held at Albert Park Reserve in Melbourne on Wednesday 21 August and Thursday 22 August.
In the Semi-Finals, The University of Sydney (East Conference) defeated The University of Western Australia (West Conference) 4-2 and The University of Queensland (North Conference) defeated Deakin University (South Conference) 5-2.
In the Grand Final, The University of Sydney defeated The University of Queensland 4 rubbers to 3 in a nail-biting contest that was ultimately decided 10-8 in the Mixed Doubles match tie-break.
The UQ UTL Team consisted of Oscar Chan (Team Manager), Taisei Kinase, Albert Kirsten, Chyi Lee, Anastasia Polach, Alec Reverente, Sathi Silva and Laura Wang, with Filip Balazovic (Coach).
