University Open Wins Award

At the Queensland Tennis Awards on Saturday night, 9 November, the University of Queensland Open Tennis Championships won the award for the Most Outstanding Event in 2024.

The Award plaque is on display in the trophy cabinet inside the UQ Tennis Clubhouse.

The 53rd University Open was played over three weekends (13-14, 20-21 & 27-28 July) with around 380 players competing in 33 events, ranging from the Open Singles to the C Grade Doubles and from the 60 & Over Singles to the 16 & Under Singles.  726 matches were played with $8,430 awarded in prizemoney and gift vouchers.

The tournament was a great success thanks to the efforts of Alex, Ashley, Bec, Doug, Jeff, Jo, Ken, Peter & Troy.

The Awards Dinner was held at the W Brisbane, North Quay, and was hosted by Todd Woodbridge and Casey Dellacqua. With 17 award categories, the Queensland Tennis Awards serve as a platform to acknowledge the achievements of athletes, clubs, coaches, volunteers, and individuals who have made a positive impact on the sport. A highlight of the night was Casey & Todd’s interview with John Millman where he discussed his struggles on the circuit and his pride in playing for Australia at the Olympic Games and in the Davis Cup.
