Lighting Update

Finally, there is a little bit of good news about the court lights.

The new LED lights have been installed on Courts 17-20 and these courts opened for night play in late May.

However, Courts 5 & 6 have now been closed because of failed lights.

The funding to replace all the lights on 17 courts (Courts 1-16 & A) has finally been approved.

Information about the project to install new lights on Courts 1-16 & A has been provided by UQ Property & Facilities (P & F).

The design, tender and procurement processes will occur through August-December with the construction work expected to start in January.  On the  latesr schedule, the installation of lights on courts 1-6 will be completed by 10 January and the installation of the new lights on courts 7-16 & A will be completed by 7 February.

At this stage, it is not clear how many courts will be available for night play during the construction period. This makes it impossible to predict what programs will be able to be run before all the courts are lit again.

With the failure of the lights on courts 5 & 6, there are now just 8 courts open for night play (courts 17-20 with the new lights and courts 7, 15, 16 & A with repaired old lights).  This is just enough to run Wednesday Night Tennis Practice and the Saturday Night Tournaments (with restricted entries).  P & F have no plans to make any more temporary repairs on other courts, so 8 courts will be the maximum available until the new lights are installed.  Should any more of the old lights fail, these programs will no longer be possible.
